Looking out of the window at trees in full green leaf, with hardly any changing to autumnal colours, it is hard to believe that we are in October – but this is another symptom of the crazy weather the world has seen this year. There are lots of events coming up around the county (and in neighbouring counties – see the details about Green Doors below) in the next few weeks. As you would expect at this time of year, many of them are apple and harvest related whilst some look at at the farming processes that produce that harvest and other posts in this newsletter relate to pollution from farming and from other sources. And if the clement weather is encouraging you to get out cycling, but you find a pedal bike rather hard work, see below for details of the next HGN Gathering on e-bikes.
HGN Gathering ‘Thinking of an E-bike?’
Wednesday 25th October 5.30pm – 7.00pm
The next HGN Gathering will be on the subject of e-bikes – how using them for local journeys can reduce your carbon footprint and improve your health. With so much choice, choosing the right e-bike can seem a bit daunting so there will be advice on what factors to consider when buying a bike and details of schemes that allow you to ‘test before you invest’ plus contributions from people who already use an e-bike.

Memberships of HGN are now due for renewal.
We now offer easier ways to pay, both for individuals and for our member groups. Membership payments can be made by BACS, or using Localgiving, which is a website that enables donations to charities and community groups. One of the benefits of both BACS and Localgiving is that you can make a regular, weekly or monthly donation which allows HGN to plan our future direction as we know what regular funding we will have for our work. You can also increase the value of your donation at no cost to yourself by Gift Aiding it.
