HWT Hereford Branch – Autumn in the City – Events

Sunday 28th November, 11am.  Walk round Wyevale Woods, Breinton.

We will meet at the Green Lane end of Wyevale wood at the gated entrance into the woods. This is a chance to meet HWT’s new Community Engagement Officer, Sarah King as she takes us on a walk around Wye Woods in Breinton to celebrate TREE WEEK 2021. The walk will take us around the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust reserve Wyevale Woods and the newer Drovers’ Wood, a Woodland Trust reserve. Drovers’ Wood was planted in 2001 and provides an excellent contrast to the more established Wyevale, where the ancient origins of the wood can still be seen. A new plan for the management of Wyevale Woods has recently been drawn up and volunteer warden Sarah will tell us a bit about the management and the woodland.

Access to the wood: There is limited parking at the end of Green Lane (by the caravan park), this is also the bus turning point so if you do park there make sure you don’t block the turning space. From the caravan park take the footpath towards Hereford until you reach a crossroads and the entrance to Wyevale is on the left.

The wood can also be accessed from Hereford by foot – pick up the footpath at the end of Westfaling street and follow the footpath until you reach a farm track, continue straight along the track, it will become a bridleway by an entrance to Wyevale woods. Follow the bridleway until you reach a crossroads and the gated entrance to Wyevale woods is on the right.  Bikes can be left at the entrance to the woods but would be left at the owners’ risk.
