Yolande and Andrew of Taste of Self Sufficiency are building a one bedroom hempcrete bungalow in Herefordshire. They are both Permaculturists and have used Permaculture Principles and Ethics in their build. Using the ‘There is No Waste – only Resources’, they have successfully installed a unique nutrient neutral self watering garden. Yolande reports that they have had volunteers helping them hempcrete their walls and install natural insulation. Most of the volunteers who stepped forward were wanting to get hands-on experience for their own house building projects or to inform their current work/future career. Hay Regenerative Soils CIC, who work under the name of Hay We Got Worms, have a workshop on soil health and biodiversity next month. On Sunday 6th September a morning Soil Safari with CLaN will be followed by a Biodiversity Building Workshop. The afternoon will be a hands on session, including learning why Make A Metre Matter shows that that even small spaces can makea a difference for biodiversity. In light of recent devastating wildfires and the extreme weather this summer, the National Trust are calling on the Government to make three commitments:
1. Make climate resilience a national mission led by a Cabinet-level minister with responsibility for preparedness across Government and long-term investment.
2. Invest in nature as essential infrastructure, including peatlands, wetlands, rivers, woodlands and heathlands that help communities adapt to climate change, reduce environmental risks and support wildlife.
3. Support Fire and Rescue Services with the funding, specialist skills, equipment and public awareness campaigns they need to prevent, prepare for and respond to wildfires and other climate hazards.

The event will bring together people from across the nature sector to share ideas, hear from leading voices and discuss how wildlife and wild places across the UK can be restored.
