News from Kington Kleen

Kington Kleen are experimenting with moving their monthly sessions to Wednesdays to see if it helps a few more people engage with them as there is a long-standing clash with the Kington Community Choir on Thursdays. So, they will hold the next KLEEN Network Drinks evening at the Oxford Arms on Wednesday 8th September from 7pm – all are welcome!
Litter-Pick on Sunday 11th September from 11am to get the town tidier for the Kington Walks Festival the following weekend.
HELP KLEEN!
Opportunities to join the Committee – in advance of next month’s AGM you are asked to consider getting involved in developing KLEEN: can you offer a few hours a month to help administer our meetings or join the committee to help make plans. KLEEN has lots of potential but needs fresh energy to help achieve it. As an example; last month, Kington Town Council’s Climate Emergency Working Party met for the first time since Covid and after looking at Energy Reduction, Saving and Community Renewable projects, the four members of the group discussed the need to offer more Talks, Films & Discussions to inform and support the new initiatives needed to make any real difference. So, as a starter and stimulate more engagement ……
Richard Priestley will present his new book SYSTEM CHANGE NOW!
Tuesday 20th September from 7pm at the Oxford Arms

Richard looks at the network of crises (climate, ecological, poverty etc) and explores numerous examples of how things could be better, from politics and economics to land use and energy generation. Carbon emissions could be reduced rapidly while improving the lives of the mass of humanity, but to do so change on a massive scale is needed. Richard is giving a series of talks at venues across Herefordshire, and gradually more shops are stocking his book (which has no ISBN number and so will not be in libraries or most bookshops). More details on his website Click here.

Apple Pressing on Saturday 24th September from 11am – lots of fruit seems to be ripening earlier and this year, the first Walnuts have appeared on the public fruit and nut trees planted in Kington Community Orchards 9 years ago.
KLEEN’s AGM will be held on Wednesday 12th October from 7pm at the Oxford Arms – please put the date in your diary.
And also thanks to those of you who donated stuff and helped run the Community Shop for the new Youth Club. £500 was raised which will come in handy as Kington Kleen now have the keys to the old Baptist Church Sunday School room – watch this space!
