Bartonsham Meadows – a new HWT reserve!

There will celebrations on Monday 1st May of the signing of the lease for Herefordshire Wildlife Trust to take over the management of Bartonsham Meadows.  Friends of Bartonsham Meadows and supporters have campaigned long and hard for this moment, so come along to Scouts Corner, Eign Road end of Park Street, Bartonsham, at 2pm sharp to help celebrate this moment – HWT’s first city reserve now confirmed.

There will be refreshments and a chance to find out more on plans to return the meadows to fully functioning flood plain meadows to better support wildlife and of course volunteering opportunities!

HWT have started regular work parties at Lower House Farm and Lugg Meadows on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, meeting at the Lower House Farm Entrance opposite the Cock of Tupsley.  Volunteers have been involved in a variety of tasks including most recently, counting the fritillaries. The grand total was 4792 flower heads!  This seems to indicate they are spreading nicely since the last count. There are also volunteer work parties at Wyevale Woods. If you are not already a registered volunteer, contact Felicity on 07534 106828 or enquiries@herefordshirewt.co.uk to arrange an induction.
