Citizen Science survey

HGN has been contacted by a PhD student at Royal Holloway, University of London who is working on pollinator conservation and citizen intervention and is looking for participants for the second year of citizen science study ‘Optimow’. This study will be looking into how you can manage your garden to help bees, butterflies and other pollinators. In the study you will be given a mowing frequency to follow and then you will count pollinators in your garden each week. The study will take 15-25 minutes a week.

This is the second year of the study. In 2023, there were an amazing 180 participants and and there was a 50% increase in pollinator numbers in one of the groups!! The study is hoping to build on this work, so there is robust advice to give members of the public about managing their lawns to help pollinators.
