The Importance of Bio-diversity

HGN members enjoyed a very informative and interesting online Gathering on Wednesday 15th March at which Marc Scale from the One Planet Council talked about the One Planet Development concept which has been adopted in Wales. For those who missed it, a recording of the event will be posted on the HGN website shortly.

One aspect of OPD which is very important is increasing bio-diversity – vitally important when you realise that in Britain we have lost 97% of our wildflower meadows since the 1930s, one quarter of our mammal species are at risk of extinction and 38 million birds have vanished from our skies in the past fifty years. The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world

Our next Gathering also has a focus on increasing bio-diversity:

On 19th April 5.30pm – 7.00pm Andrew De La Haye will be speaking about Permaculture.

Permaculture is a holistic approach to growing food regeneratively, using methods that require minimal input from people whilst creating maximum habitats for wildlife. Details of how to book for this online event will be in next week’s newsletter, but put the date in your diary now!

If you want to find out more and receive practical advice, the Permaculture Association runs courses on The Foundations of Permaculture and on Growing Food In Small Spaces
