DEADLINE FOR WALKING REGISTRATIONS – FRIDAY 10TH 6PM

Over 50 people from around Herefordshire and South Shropshire will be walking towards Birmingham, as our local contribution towards a river of concerned, positive humanity which will soon be flowing from all parts of the UK towards Glasgow.

The Camino to COP is a ‘Pilgrimage for Climate Justice’, which is now walking from London (and beyond including from Europe) via Birmingham to Glasgow in time for COP26. As well as the ‘Main Camino’ there is also a ‘Western Camino’ which left Bristol this week to join the Main Camino at Birmingham….

GINKGO TO GLASGOW Carrying a Ginkgo tree as symbolic of the resilience of life to climatic and other changes, the ‘Marches Camino’ will start from Hereford on Tuesday 14th Sept and also from Ludlow on Wednesday 15th Sept. We will all meet at Tenbury Wells on the evening of 15th September, then go eastwards to join the Western Camino at Stourport on the 17th, and thence on to Stourbridge and Birmingham where we meet the Main Camino. The Gingko will find its way north with the Camino to Glasgow, where it will be planted during COP26 as an emblem of faith in the future.

You can walk with us all the way or part of the way or just for a day, as you wish – if you don’t want to walk at all there are many other ways to support. Deadline for walking registrations is Friday 10th Sept 6pm but even after that you can still register to support us in other ways.

Marches Camino begins with a socially-distanced open public event in Hereford from 6-7.30pm on Monday 13th, attended by the Bishop of Hereford and other local faith leaders… There will be a similar launch event in Ludlow at 7pm on Tuesday 14th and others at Tenbury on the 15th , Stourport on the 16th and Stourbridge on the 17th. Each morning, the public are invited to ‘wave us off’ on our journey… commencing at or near Hereford Cathedral 9am Tuesday 14th when local dignitaries and supporters will accompany us through the city.

The Camino to COP is an XR FaithBridge initiative but not badged XR nor restricted to Extinction Rebellion. It is organised by faith communities but not restricted to people of faith.

The purpose of the walk is to build alliances and engage communities along the route – faith communities and other local communities – and to spread the word about the urgency of the need for meaningful action to address the global climate and ecological emergency.
