Almeley Green Group Event

Meer Common Gathering  Sunday 19th April 2.00 -4.00 pm

The Almeley Green Group, a HGN GOLD member, has spent the past few years restoring one of its parish commons through a range of habitat and biodiversity initiatives. This has included repurposing overgrown and unsafe trees to create log piles, improving light access to the pond and woodland floor, and clearing heavily overgrown bramble areas to allow native flora to return. The group has also installed dormouse, owl and bat boxes to further support local wildlife. The work has been guided by local tree and ecology advisers, supported by a number of nature grants, and helped by volunteers who carry out the tasks recommended by the ecology and tree reports. The project has transformed a much-loved but neglected  local green space into a thriving habitat for wildlife and a welcoming space for the community.
To mark completion of the restoration phase, a Meer Common Gathering will take place this Sunday 19th April 2:00–4:00pm. Residents and other interested parties are invited to come along, see the transformation, and meet the volunteers behind the project.
