Have you spotted a stag beetle yet this summer?

Adult stag beetles are most often seen on warm evenings from late May throughout June and July. They’re the UK’s largest land beetle, but their flight is famously clumsy, with males hanging almost vertically in the air as they search for mates.

Thanks to everyone taking part, over 10,000 stag beetles have already been recorded this year through PTES’s Great Stag Hunt. If you see an adult stag beetle, a larva, or even a dead beetle, please record it too. Every record helps build a clearer picture of where these remarkable insects are living.

Could you help spot hedgehogs from home?

The National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme is helping PTES understand how many hedgehogs there are, where they’re living and what kind of habitats they use. Volunteers have already helped collect thousands of wildlife images, and now people are needed to help classify the animals captured on camera.

All you need to do is sign up for a MammalWeb account, choose the NHMP project and start spotting. Every image you classify helps build the evidence needed to protect hedgehogs.
