organised by The Green Group Almeley, one of HGN’s GOLD members given by CPRE, another of HGN’s GOLD members.
CPRE Talk Hedgerow Heroes – in the last 75 years 50% of our hedgerows have been lost, as have the skills to manage them. Can we reverse the trend and bring back wildlife rich corridors to Herefordshire? In the winter of 2024/25 CPRE planted 3.7km hedges in the county with the help of local volunteers and they will be running a similar project this coming winter, aiming for another 4km!. All welcome.
Leominster Millenium Green and Community Orchard
Over the last 18 months a small group of volunteers have been getting together, building up a programme of volunteer days to get the orchard into a better shape. The group will next meet in the orchard to pick and press apples, using Russell’s small press, on Sunday 12th October 2.00pm -4.00pmpm Bring bags, and bottles (plastic is best for freezing).
They will be planting *native* spring bulbs on Saturday 1st November to celebrate Samhain, the pagan / peasant New Year. More details to follow…
Next year, the cycle continues, and so does the orchard work. There will be winter and summer pruning and a few scything/mowing sessions over the growing season, as well as more cultural events. Sessions are about 2 hours long. Please get in touch if you want to join in, the more the merrier – and easier!
