This week’s session was on Phosphates with Andrew Clegg. Andrew defined phosphates, and explained why they are such an issue in the Somerset Levels: the causes and impacts of high phosphate levels in rivers and soil, including the effects on local ecosystems and wildlife the effects, what has been done to date to reduce problem, and what remains to be done. The group discussed potential solutions, monitoring efforts, and the roles of various stakeholders in addressing the phosphate issue, with a focus on the importance of understanding the science behind the problem and the need for continued research and action.
