National Education Nature Park

The National Education Nature Park is a new scheme that empowers young people to make a positive difference to both their own and nature‘s future, through creating a network of green spaces across the country.

By turning grey spaces green, young people are boosting biodiversity, connecting to nature, and developing vital green and digital skills for their futures. The programme, commissioned by the Department for Education, launched in autumn 2023 and is led by the Natural History Museum working with the Royal Horticultural Society and others.

A five-step cycle guides teachers and young people through the programme, seeing them understand what is already living and growing on their learning site and how it is used by the school community, before identifying opportunities to enhance their space for both people and wildlife.

Every small act makes a big impact: by monitoring wildlife on their sites and the changes they‘ve made, young people see the collective difference they are making on an online map and contribute to scientific research on nature recovery.

All schools, nurseries and colleges in England can get involved in the free programme, as well as access a growing library of quality-assured, curriculum-linked resources at www.educationnaturepark.org.uk.
