With ongoing drought conditions across much of Britain, PTES (People’s Trust for Endangered Species) are again urging everyone to place shallow dishes of water in the garden. Rescue centres are reporting record numbers of hedgehog admissions, many of which are dehydrated and starving. Even with recent rain, it will take months for natural water sources to replenish so additional options are essential, just remember to keep dishes clean and the water fresh.
Another way to provide a reliable water source is to create a wildlife pond: just make sure it has sloping edges in case hedgehogs fall in (or an escape ramp if you already have a high-sided pond).
