HGN has received the following from Ledbury Area Cycle Forum:
Last September quiet lanes were closed to the public to allow for a car rally, centred in Ledbury and nearby villages. The organisers, Hills Ford Rally, are applying to Herefordshire Council to permit a repeat this year.
Herefordshire Council received numerous complaints after last year’s event, some of which are summarised in the report ‘Hills Ford Rally feed back‘. As a result, Barry Durkin, the Councillor responsible for allowing the road closures, is canvassing for the public’s response, either directly, or via local councils. His email to local councils is here.
He requests responses before May 26.
You will note in the report that though the lanes were only closed for one day, the event attracted rally drivers for a long weekend, with examples of aggressive and dangerous driving witnessed over several days. Copy-cat aggressive driving was also noted in Ledbury during the following week. You may also be aware that Herefordshire Council adopted a Climate Emergency Strategy in 2019. Licensing fuel-hungry motoring events would seem to conflict with its carbon-reduction policy.
If you would like to comment on the proposals, please do so to your local council (eg clerk@ledburytowncouncil.gov.uk)
and to Bruce Evans at Herefordshire Council (bje@herefordshire.gov.uk)
