Will history have been made in North Herefordshire by this time next week? Two recent polls suggest that the constituency may be about to elect its first Green Party MP. One constituency-level poll, conducted by Omnisis, and another by IPSOS, put Green candidate Ellie Chowns in first place. Another two, by Survation and YouGov, have the Green Party in second place.
Now, HGN – in spite of its name – has no party allegiances. As an organisation, we want our members, their families, friends and neighbours, to go out next Thursday and vote for whatever policies and person they think will best serve their community and the nation. And particularly in North Herefordshire, it looks as if each of those votes really will matter.
In our electoral system it’s incredibly hard for smaller parties to get the chance to represent their communities at Westminster; achieving that takes vast amounts of hard work and passion. Speaking personally, I think this is a hugely exciting opportunity for a fresh and challenging voice to be heard in parliament.
So however, and wherever, you plan to cast your vote, grab that photo ID and head out next Thursday!
