Wyescapes Online Event
Wyescapes is a Landscape Recovery project for more than 5000 hectares along river corridors of the Wye and Lugg in Herefordshire. 50 landholdings will collaborate to restore the riverside habitats and support nature recovery, improve public access and engagement with the landscape, whilst producing quality food and produce through sustainable climate-resilient farming. Everyone with an interest in the project outcomes whether through an interest in the local food economy, as local residents, or via their involvement with community groups or Herefordshire businesses, will be very welcome to attend an online event on Wednesday 27th November at 7pm.

In 2023, the community learned that Babbinswood Organic Farm, near Oswestry in North Shropshire, known for their organic produce, holistic veterinary care and welcoming spaces, faced an uncertain future. Over the past few decades, the farm has evolved from a conventional farm into an organic, community-focused enterprise, home to one of the UK’s pioneering cow-calf dairies, together with beef, sheep and a diverse mix of local land-based businesses and projects. Six Inches of Soil: film followed by Q&A Herefordshire Food Alliance are showing of Six Inches of Soil as part of the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust’s Apple Day Celebration at Queenswood Country Park Sunday 20th October. The whole day runs from 11am – 4pm with the film showing at 1pm – 3.30pm including Q&A with local farmer Rich Thomas who will give his reflections on the film and an insight into the joys and challenges of farming in Herefordshire. Six Inches of Soil: film showing with local food buffet, 21st October 6pm, Almeley Village Hall Six Inches of Soil is the inspiring story of British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food – to heal the soil, benefit our health and provide for local communities. There will be an extravaganza of local food prepared by the community (including meat from animals raised in Almeley, and local vegetarian alternatives). The film will be followed by a Q&A with local farmers and food providers, and there will be a bar & hot drinks available.

On 7th September, Herefordshire Wildlife Trust are asking the people of Herefordshire to join in with a Day of Action for Herefordshire’s rivers, streams and wetlands and be a part of the restoration of the rivers and streams from the mighty River Wye to the streams and brooks running though the county’s towns and villages. Join HWT in the heart of the county, Hereford where they are pledging to create a new urban wetland for the city. Or, head north to Wellington in the Lugg Valley to learn how landowners and communities are collaborating on wetland creation and natural flood management.
