The Great Collaboration runs weekly lunchtime online sessions. These are friendly, cooperative forums that provide tips and suggestions to help individuals and groups understand and contribute to local actions aiming to reach Net Zero. To the north-east of Herefordshire, the Transition group in Bewdley, Worcestershire are working on a brilliant initiative called “Bewdley District Heating Scheme”: a community energy project which harnesses energy from the River Severn to heat local homes through heat pumps. The weather this year has been notable for its lack of sunshine. A long, wet winter has been followed by an indifferent summer to date, with low temperatures and high winds impacting wildlife, particularly summer insects such as bees and butterflies which have been noticeable by their absence. The Big Butterfly Count, a citizen science project run by the charity Butterfly Conservation, is asking everyone to get out and count butterflies – see the final post in this newsletter. Marches Energy Grant The Marches Energy Grant (MEG) offers free advice, energy assessments and grants for energy efficiency and renewable energy measures to SMEs from all sectors in Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. The funding is also available to support community buildings. As well as the grant funding, the project will also run related networking and webinar events for SMEs and other organisations.
