Big Solar Co-op, a not-for-profit, carbon-first and volunteer-led organisation whose first large rooftop solar installation was on the Herefordshire borders at Tenbury, has now installed a second large roof mounted system, this time in Cambridgeshire. Big Solar Co-op is progressing some 480 other potential sites on large rooftops across the UK. The buildings range from doctors’ surgeries to community buildings, leisure centres, large shops and other medium and large businesses. The Home Energy Savers initiative is for households that want to make energy improvements to their homes but whose income means they don’t qualify for support from the national Home Upgrade Grant or some other incentives. It’s open to those with a household income over £36,000 per annum, and/or with disposable income available to spend on measures for their homes.
An exciting opportunity for rural communities in the South West, South Wales and the Midlands. Regen is working with National Grid Electricity Distribution on an innovation project focused on the decarbonisation of rural areas. REACH: Rural Energy and Community Heat. The project has been funded by network users and consumers under the Strategic Innovation Fund, an Ofgem programme managed in partnership with UKRI. The goal is to find 5-10 rural communities to work with over the next 2 months to co-create innovative approaches for meeting the local area’s decarbonisation ambitions.
