Although HGN is a non-political organisation, we extend our congratulations to Dr Ellie Chowns, long-term supporter of the network, on her success at becoming MP for the Green Party in North Herefordshire in the general election and to Jesse Norman for retaining his seat of Hereford and South Herefordshire.
Some of you may be receiving this HGN newsletter for the first time having previously received newsletters from our project The Great Collaboration – Local Actions for a Healthy Planet. In September 2023 HGN transferred the web-based toolkit over to a new organisation, Place-based Initiatives Ltd (PBI) to expand the provision across the UK. Herefordshire Green Network’s programme will now concentrate on activities in this county and be known as Great Collaboration Herefordshire. Rod Howell, who set up the Repair Café in Worcester in 2016, is now looking at setting up a Repair Café in Hereford, and he is looking for like minded organisations and individuals who would like to help get it started. As climate change brings more intense and frequent extreme weather events, such as flooding and heatwaves, adaptation becomes crucial. Herefordshire Council, in partnership with Sustainability West Midlands, has developed the county’s first Adaptation Plan. Town and Parish Councils, Public and Private Sector Enterprises, Community Groups and Leaders who were not able to attend the webinar held on 14th June can watch a recording of the event to find out more about the plan, hear from experts, gain insights, and discover how to work together to reduce the detrimental impacts of climate change on our communities. Marches Energy Grant The Marches Energy Grant (MEG) offers free advice, energy assessments and grants for energy efficiency and renewable energy measures to SMEs from all sectors in Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
