Forthcoming Events This settled spell of glorious sunshine is tempting everyone out into the garden just as insect life is waking from hibernation, plants are breaking into leaf (as are the weeds!), and birds’ nesting activity is in full swing. Those recent blue skies and sunshine have given many of us a much-needed lift, and there’s a sense that spring will soon burst forth. Spring’s a great time for growing – and that’s just what the HGN team has planned. We’re on a push to really boost member numbers and engagement, so do look out for messages about that in the coming weeks. The first newsletter of 2025 brings news of events in January, and a reminder that the items in the weekly newsletter come from you, our members and supporters, so if you have upcoming events that you want publicised, or if you want to let other HGN supporters know about your group, send in the details and we will post them in the newsletter. Giving Tuesday, the international day of donating, volunteering and other forms of giving, takes place on Tuesday 3rd December. HGN held its Annual General Meeting online on Wednesday 15th May. Participants heard from members of the Steering Group about what HGN has achieved during the past year including updates on The Great Collaboration and Building Sense. There was a discussion with the members present about how they see HGN’s role going forward. At the end of the meeting there were brief presentations from some members about their what their group does and its activities. HGN has had a busy start to 2024. So far, this year’s online meetings/webinars have attracted over 270 different people from across the county to hear about a wide range of topics. Our Great Collaboration Herefordshire project was set up in 2019 to support groups and parish councils across the county on their path towards net zero and improved biodiversity – our current GCH co-ordinator, Clare, ran a workshop recently for representatives from a range of parishes, and the benefits of sharing experiences were clear.
