Leigh Day is a firm of solicitors representing some members of the Hereford community in relation to the pollution of the River Wye. A lot of their clients and the wider community have explained to them that the pollution of the river has really impacted their lives, from loss of access to the rivers and the ecological decline to affecting their livelihoods and property values. It is depressing to note how little talk of nature and the environment has featured in the election debates and campaigning currently dominating the media. There is still time to let your PPCs (Prospective Parliamentary Candidates) know how important green issues are to you personally and for the future of the planet. The run-up to the election is a chance to raise issues and demand answers and many of the posts in this week’s newsletter urge you to action; to use your voice to move environmental matters up the political agenda.
Zero Hour is the campaign for the Climate and Nature Bill, formerly the CE Bill and CEE Bill, a plan for a new UK law that addresses climate change, global warming, and the nature crisis in line with the most up-to-date science. The Bill is the only proposed legislation before the UK Parliament that ensures a comprehensive and joined-up approach to the emergency. The Zero Hour campaign is urging everyone to ask their election candidates to back the bill. The Restore Nature Now March is taking place June 22nd in London. Coaches are going from Hereford. XR Marches are organising at least 1 coach. There will be a discussion evening on Wednesday 27th March at 7pm in the main building of the Left Bank building on the ground floor where you enter from Bridge Street. The Floodgates bar is next to the room where the meeting will be held, so you can get a drink.
