We had a great HGN Gathering too!

Following our Members meeting on Wednesday, we were joined by others for this month’s HGN Gathering at the Left Bank – focusing on the issue of reducing single-use plastic locally.

Our thanks go to Yolande Watson and Helen Saunders who joined us from the amazing Wye Unnecessary Plastics group at Ross on Wye.

We were truly inspired by their recent work and positive results.  Wye UP have been approaching local food outlets in Ross to survey their use of single-use plastics.  They have asked these businesses if they would consider using more eco-friendly alternatives and in return for such a pledge they will be able to display the Wye UP logo.  Wye UP and the local Marine Conservation Society are providing alternative options, including suppliers to aid businesses in making a change.  As the more eco-friendly options can be more expensive, Wye UP aim to set up a co-op to bulk buy these items to serve local businesses!

Wye UP are looking to survey 60+ local businesses and review after a year in order to provide a benchmark for activities elsewhere.

HGN is keen to work further with Wye UP and replicate action in Hereford…. so watch this space for further news!
