Tomorrow / Demain: Seeds, Films & Talks!

Over the coming few weeks there is a spring tide of activities around the county. Tomorrow, Saturday 3rd February, is Hereford’s Seed Swap day, followed by Leominster’s Seed Swap on the following week alongside an abundance of film showings, inspiring speakers and activities, including a new Repair Cafe at Queenswood.

Full details of all of these events can be found here on the HGN event calendar:  www.hgnetwork.org/whats-on/

On Friday 16th February two inspirational films come to the county. At 6pm The Bentley Effect describes the successful (“eureka”) blockade of the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Meg Nielsen who was part of the blockade will be in Hereford to talk after this Herefordshire Greenpeace film showing at De Koffie Pot.

And if you are quick & coordinated you can hop skip and jump from Hereford to Ledbury in time for an 8pm showing of Demain/Tomorrow. (Update 2021: For a link to Streaming site where you can pay to access this film Click here)

A huge hit in its native France and winner of the Best Documentary at the Cesar Awards (the French Oscars), Demain/Tomorrow charts the journey of activist and writer Cyril Dion and actress/director Mélanie Laurent, as they search for solutions to the crisis humanity faces. Devastated by predictions of dire global consequences by the end of the 21st Century, the film-makers set out with a team of four to visit ten countries, investigating what could cause this catastrophe and how it might be avoided. During their trip, they met pioneers who are reinventing agriculture, energy, the economy, democracy and education in simple and highly effective ways. They discovered that there are solutions, accessible to everyone, which put power firmly in our hands.

A feel-good film, lively and bright in its delivery, Demain/Tomorrow has taken France by storm and asks “will this be tomorrow’s world?” Come and be uplifted.

Screening as a fundraiser for The Size of Herefordshire, a locally based initiative to tackle climate change by working to sustain an area of Amazonian Rainforest the size of our county.  The evening includes the first showing of a new short film by Dan Haworth-Salter, documenting the visit in 2017 by Size of Herefordshire volunteers to the area of north-east Peru inhabited by the Wampi Forest People, whose way of life is threatened by loggers, miners, oil drillers and other illegal exploiters.
