Minerals and Waste – Local Consultation

Herefordshire Council launches its Minerals and Waste Option Consultation on Monday 14 August 2017. The council is looking for views on locations for mineral extraction and the development of waste management facilities. The consultation will run for eight weeks until Friday 6 October 2017.

Councillor Philip Price, cabinet member, infrastructure said:

“This will be the first opportunity for the public and other interested parties to comment on one of the outstanding key elements of the Herefordshire local plan, as we look to develop the policies and proposals which guide and regulate minerals and waste management infrastructure – which are essential to support a modern economy.”

Minerals and waste planning aims to control mineral extraction and manage waste. The Minerals and Waste Local Plan (MWLP) will explain the vision, objectives and strategy for Herefordshire. It will detail policies and, potentially, locations for minerals extraction (such as sand and gravel pits or crushed rock quarries) and for the development of waste management facilities (such as recycling plants).

The issues and options consultation is the first step of the MWLP preparation process.

Please take time to have a look at this if you can – input from people in the Herefordshire Green Network would make a valuable contribution to this consultation process.

An information drop in session open to the public will take place at:

Shirehall, St Peter’s Square, Hereford on Friday 8 September, from 2-4pm.

An online or paper questionnaire is available.

Information can also be found in libraries and information centres across the county during normal working hours for the duration of the consultation.
