Left Bank Talks and Discussion Evenings – coming up

From Nat and Alan:

WEDNESDAY 20TH MAY – What Sort of World Should We Build Afterwards? With Mark Thomas

The coronavirus has changed everything. And of course, there is still a lot of uncertainty about how it will end. But it has also shown us – if we didn’t know – how badly broken our current economic system is. And it has demonstrated both what we can do when we act together, and that many things we were told were unaffordable are not unaffordable at all. This poses the question: What Sort of World Should We Build Afterwards?

Mark Thomas, the author of the book 99%: Mass Impoverishment and How We Can End It (one of the FT’s Best Books of 2019) and founder of The 99% Organisation will talk about what we should be aiming to achieve, how we can do it – and how you can help. And there will be plenty of time for questions. Do join in. Zoom link:https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82607766321?pwd=aVQ4NW4zYmJWZ2lBT0tXb0o4YXNyQT09  Meeting ID: 826 0776 6321 Password: 662342

WEDNESDAY 27TH MAY – Return of the tribes. Nationalism in the Age of Global Disaster

The Left Bank online discussion evenings continue to try new formats. For this evening, we invite you to sign up for Simon Schama’s talk, ‘Return of the tribes’ at the free, digital, Hay Festival, earlier in the day (4pm – 4.45pm). The link is here but hurry – there are only 1800 tickets left!

We’ll then share our impressions of the event as a way of starting the discussion. If you didn’t manage to catch the event, you can of course listen to the impressions of those who did – and then join in yourself. Zoom link:
