There will be a performance of Last Train to Tomorrow, a song cycle about the Kindertransport composed by Carl Davis, which is taking place at Leominster Priory on 1st December. The date is significant as it is the 80th anniversary of the first Kindertransport train leaving Berlin in 1938, bringing children from a burnt-down orphanage to safety in Britain. 10,000 mostly-Jewish children were brought to safety over the next 9 months, Britain being the only country to help in this way.
The performance, by Herefordshire Youth Choir, is supported by a talk from Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines, a Kindertransport ‘child’ from Czechoslovakia and from the CEO of Refugee Action, Stephen Hale. All profits will go to two refugee charities: Refugee Action who are supporting Syrian refugees resettling locally and People In Motion – a local charity who support refugees in Europe, so we need a full house to enjoy this exciting performance. Carl Davis himself will be conducting the piece.
