Hereford City Trees–Apply for a Tree

‘Help make your city greener – spring back from lockdown by planting a tree!  Herefordshire Council, working with tree specialists Frank P Matthews at Tenbury, have used funding from the government’s Towns Fund to secure over 500 trees for residents, businesses, schools, colleges and other organisations to plant in their gardens and green spaces.

There are eight different ‘small space friendly’ trees to select from – but with only limited numbers of each variety, apply online asap here.

The Scheme will open on Monday 22nd Feb and close on Wednesday 24th March 2021 and trees will be allocated on a first come first served basis or when all trees have been allocated.

You will be able to apply for one tree per eligible residential address and up to five trees for businesses, schools, colleges and other organisations

The trees are all chosen to be suitable for gardens and similar smaller spaces, come at the perfect size for quick establishment, and will not only brighten up your life but that of others who can also enjoy the bark, fruits, and flowers of your efforts. Over time, the trees will help increase the canopy cover in Hereford City and provide food and refreshment for people, insects, and other wildlife.

To ensure the scheme is ‘Covid safe’ each tree will be delivered to your door (or safe place) coming with a supporting stake, tree tie, special natural ‘root grow’ additive and a ‘how to guide’ they arrive planting-ready all you need to do is select the spot and dig the hole.

If you receive your tree, we would be grateful if you could share a photo of your newly planted tree with others by posting a photo on social media #citytrees or send it in to citytrees@herefordshire.gov.uk so we can help share the greening of the city far and wide.
