Hellens Garden Festival: Reimagined (this weekend)

From Kat Terry

For fourteen years our small and dedicated team have organised an annual two day Festival, held in the beautiful gardens and grounds of Hellens Manor. It is a collaborative and creative venture, and a fantastic community event, from which all profits are donated to two local beneficiaries: St Michael’s Hospice (Hereford) and Back to the Wild (CIC). The Covid-19 pandemic means that our usual 2 day event will not be going ahead, but has given us the opportunity to reimagine our wonderful festival.

‘Hellens Garden Festival Reimagined’, will be an ONLINE, creative digital event on the 22nd & 23rd August 2020. This exciting new format, hosted on our website and YouTube channel (not at Hellens), will feature live talks, herbal workshops, virtual dowsing and much more. You can enjoy all the informative and entertaining events from the comfort of your own home!

Not to be missed is our live forum talk ‘Gardening for the Planet’ with acclaimed Author, Columnist and Gardener Tamsin Westhorpe and guests at 12pm on Saturday 22nd.  On Sunday, at 12pm Paul Rutter of ‘Plantlife’ will be delivering a talk entitled ‘Reconnecting the landscape for Biodiversity and the People’.

Also being released over the weekend is our new film, ‘A stroll through the gardens and grounds of Hellens’, where you can find out about the ancient and rare pear tree collection, the long Garden, physic garden and meadows, as well as discover which well known Chelsea Award winning Garden Designer is creating a new garden at Hellens.

To complement HGF’s virtual festival, we will also be curating a new Art and Sculpture Trail a Hellens. Enjoy work by Simon Meiklejohn, Paul Thomas, Peter King, David England, Simon Probyn, Jon Williams, Sarah Monk and more throughout the gardens and grounds. This is complemented by work in the Great Barn, an exhibition titled ‘Field and Orchard’, selected paintings and drawings by Bridget Macdonald.

The exhibition and sculpture trail will open on Wednesday 26th August, at Hellens Manor, from 10am-6pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays until 27th September. Entry is free but donations are welcomed, which will be given to Hellens Garden Festival beneficiaries St Michael’s Hospice and Back to the Wild CIC.
