Great news from Growing Local!

Growing Local  starts the year with some extraordinarily exciting news for you – Growing Local’s Market Garden City project is being taken forward to Government in January as part of Hereford’s £25m Stronger Hereford bid!. Our project is part of the joint ‘Skills Foundry’ bid along with NMITE, the Art College, Rural Media and Belmont Wanderers. Our part of the project will facilitate the development of a sixteen acre site in South Wye into a Community owned Market Garden (growing fruit and vegetables for the people of Hereford), a new Educational Garden (for schools, families and adult education) and a Food and Horticultural Skills Hub (for schools, community groups, families, adults and private hire etc). The hub building will contain a full teaching cook school, two further classrooms, a cafe and catering kitchen and a farm shop.

We are truly over the moon to have got this far….only the mere matter of Government scrutiny over the next few months to get through now, yikes!. 2021 will certainly be a very busy year here at Growing Local HQ, not only preparing our business plans and finances but hopefully preparing the land ready for growing next season. The land is due to be asset transferred from the council to us early in 2021, as soon as this happens, we will be packing up our Court Farm educational garden and moving to the new site. Any volunteer help will be massively appreciated, though not until current Covid restrictions are eased. Going forward we will be needing an army of volunteers to work at the new site and help make our exciting plans come into fruition!

We will be holding a public meeting on Zoom at 6.30pm on Tuesday 2nd February to discuss our Stronger Towns bid and where we go from here with the Community Garden plans and implementation. Please do register your interest in taking part in the meeting to info@growinglocal.org.uk and we will send you joining instructions.
