“Green Connections”: Toni Fagan

I’m so delighted to begin a second term on the HGN Steering Group. I would like to strengthen communication between grassroots organisations and Herefordshire Council and would like to share stories. I would like to introduce Herefordshire’s councillors with HGN networks. I’ll go first…

Toni Fagan

My name is Toni Fagan, I live in Llanwarne – south of Hereford and became a Green Party councillor in May 2019 and have a pink canoe in my driveway that says: Tell the Truth.  I am on the Corporate Parent Panel for the county’s looked-after children. I am on the Planning Committee and realise how important place-shaping is to a resilient future. I am on the Pensions Committee for Hereford and Worcester Pension Fund and am delighted to see how Mark Carney’s time as governor of the Bank of England has directed policy which we are just starting to see come through the financial sector. I also sit on the Scrutiny Committee’s task and finish group on the Climate and Ecological Emergency and the council’s response to how Herefordshire achieves net zero carbon by 2030 – and how the council will work with its partners across the county to achieve this. It’s a huge ask and can only be achieved if everyone works together. The County Plan’s three priorities Community, Environment and Economy are to me the three principles of Permaculture: Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share. I am constantly reminded of difficult it is to work together towards solutions and how we must weave opportunities for sustainability and working together into absolutely everything we do.
