Applewood is a 20 acre smallholding (Waterloo Farm, Orleton, N. Herefordshire). As well as a training centre it is home to Chris Evans and Looby Macnamara and their family Shanti (20) and Teya (12). We have had the place since July 2016 so we are in the early days of observation and design ideas for setting this up as a demonstration and training centre. There are various teaching and course spaces, from heated yurt and barn space to outdoor marquee and open air. There are many diverse habitats here already; we have woodland, orchard, pasture, pool and gardens. We are blessed with night times filled with owl hoots and immense starry skies.

Our big vision is for an abundant and fair world where Earth and people are treated with respect.

Our mission (i.e. our positive steps to reach this big vision) is to provide inspiration, motivation and tools to enable people to be proactive in growing the ethics of Earth Care, People Care and Fair Shares.

We run a wide range of courses here, focused on Permaculture and Cultural Emergence learning pathways. The essence of each of our courses is empowerment, so that each person is able to bring their own unique set  of skills and life experience to enrich the learning environment. Courses include the permaculture introductory and design courses, forest gardening, grafting and orchard management, permaculture trainers’ training, permaculture for development workers, and cultural emergence pathway courses: ACE – Activating Cultural Emergence, CEED – Cultural Emergence Effective Design course, and PEACE – Peace, Empowerment And Cultural Emergence course.

As well as running courses we also offer consultancy and advice on land, livelihood and project design, and are also active in the local area in XR, Transition Towns, Ludlow Food Network/Fair Trade, and other positive change networks, and offer design consultancy. One of our key aims is to support local initiatives to flourish effectively, by being pro-active in networking, and offering the skills and facilities we have.
