Following our lively HGN Plastics Gathering this month, Wye Unnecessary Plastic (Wye UP!) have invited HGN members to their next meeting on Thurs 4 October at 6 pm at the King’s Head in Ross on Wye. The meeting will be no longer than 1.5 hours.
They are planning to discuss the results of their surveys and pledges as well as a future work programme – and they’d love to welcome any HGN members or any one interested in finding out more.
We are so excited to have been invited, along with Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, to take part in #HerefordHour this Monday 1 Oct from 1 pm!
If you haven’t heard of #HerefordHour you can learn more here. This is Twitter networking for Herefordshire businesses and organisations, with a dedicated theme each week. It has become a popular local tool for publicity and marketing, networking and sharing information.
On Monday the chat will centre around the h.Energy festival, sustainability and wildlife… it would be great to get your feedback during the hour. HGN’s very own Events Co-ordinator, Rebecca, will be joining in with the chat and she’d love to hear from you too!

Following our Members meeting on Wednesday, we were joined by others for this month’s HGN Gathering at the Left Bank – focusing on the issue of reducing single-use plastic locally.
Our thanks go to Yolande Watson and Helen Saunders who joined us from the amazing Wye Unnecessary Plastics group at Ross on Wye.
We were truly inspired by their recent work and positive results. Wye UP have been approaching local food outlets in Ross to survey their use of single-use plastics. They have asked these businesses if they would consider using more eco-friendly alternatives and in return for such a pledge they will be able to display the Wye UP logo. Wye UP and the local Marine Conservation Society are providing alternative options, including suppliers to aid businesses in making a change. As the more eco-friendly options can be more expensive, Wye UP aim to set up a co-op to bulk buy these items to serve local businesses!
Wye UP are looking to survey 60+ local businesses and review after a year in order to provide a benchmark for activities elsewhere.
HGN is keen to work further with Wye UP and replicate action in Hereford…. so watch this space for further news!
Thanks to everyone who joined us for a great HGN Members meeting on Wednesday night!
We were excited to hand out the new h.Energy flyers and leaflets and are looking forward to the events taking place around the weekend of 13/14th October. We discussed a range of activities that our Members are currently involved with and ways that we can support each other. The minutes of the meeting will be available soon on the HGN website, under Documents.
10 October 2018. 9.30am – 2pm inc. lunch at Bridgnorth, Shropshire.
The Meres & Mosses Business Environment Network (based in Shropshire) are promoting this event, which will cover all aspects of energy management in business – from the standards and schemes available to the wider implications of energy usage as climate change becomes a ‘hot’ topic.
Case studies from their members will provide real examples of how different energy systems can be used within a commercial setting. As always there will be plenty of opportunity for networking between the presentation sessions and they aim to continue their high standards of lunch to help continue the conversations!
Booking is essential for this event and there are also opportunities for businesses to exhibit.
For more information and to book click here.

They give a full schedule of all the activities taking place around the weekend of 13/14th October. It would be wonderful if you can take a good handful and circulate so look forward to seeing as many of you as possible this Wednesday!
If you’d like to take a sneak preview, the leaflets and poster are being uploaded to the HGN website under Documents, and please feel free to circulate digitally as well!
